The new water meter.

Across our irrigation district the dethridge water wheels that have been in place since the scheme’s development in the 1940’s are gradually being replaced. These wheels, seen here and here, measured the water as it came onto each farm. This new slip meter syphon replaces two wheels.

  6. Fascinating. I agree with others that the wheels are more photogenic, but there is beauty in efficiency too.

  8. Well technology may be great and perhaps more efficient but I found the wheels more charming.
