      For those that don’t know - In Australia all cattle are part of the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS). Each animal is electronically tagged (the round eartag in the right ear of this one) so they have lifetime traceability ie from birth their movements between properties is recorded on a central database. This is really important for disease control, product integrity and market access. When the animal is sold it is scanned at point of sale for identification, and it’s lifetime traceability is checked. No tag, no sale.

      On an on-farm level we use the electronic tag to monitor and record weight gains in each animal, very quickly and accurately.

    1. The paddocks have a layer of fine cobwebs over them at the moment because of the all the rain and the spiders wanting higher ground. The cattle that are grazing the paddocks end up with the odd cobweb attached!
