Some farmers burn paddocks to get rid of last years stubble. We had one get away from us a couple years ago as we were burning CRP ground. The practice of burning pastures is especially prevalent in the Flint Hills of Kansas in the springtime, where ranchers burn away the old growth to promote the lush green grasses, just like the Native Americans did.
