Without it you would have a 50-50 chance of surviving. Even with the antivenom you can still be really, really sick. So it is best to keep clear of the tiger snake... maybe all Aussie snakes for that matter! A Brown will generally get out of your way, a tiger snake is very aggressive and will stand his ground.
