Testing accuracy of slip meter.

  1. Farming is so much more complicated than when we were farming! Think you need to be a scientist now a days as well as a mathematician. :-) Diane

    1. Not sure. We have to wait for the report to come in.

  3. I have no idea what a slip meter is, but if it takes 4 fellas in neon attire and a huge machine, it must be serious.

    1. You are correct - it is serious. Throughout our irrigation district the method for measuring water coming onto individual farms is being upgraded. We pay for the water on a per megalitre basis. In the past we have had dethridge wheels, which are water wheels that spin to record the water as it flows through. Technology has changed and these wheels apparently needed upgrading, so they are being replaced with slip meters (front left in photo). The water is now measured by sensors and gives an "accurate flow measurement, precise flow control" and in the future, can be remotely activated.
We have had discrepancies with both of our new meters ie: it is not recording accurately how much water is coming onto our farm. So the company has organised some independent testing to be done. It is a very expensive process.

  4. I don't know what that is, but it looks important. Hope it was accurate!

  5. Such a big job for something that sounds quite simple.

    1. It was big, and expensive. These guys were on-farm all day testing this one slip meter with their Remote Electronic Verification System, which is a "mobile hydraulic laboratory which allows for accurate and reliable field measurement". It was fascinating to see how it was done.
