Then and now tree planting.

Over years we have planted thousands of native trees on our farm and have been involved with the local Landcare movement right from the start. There are many benefits to doing revegetation works like beautification, shade, shelter, carbon sequestration, lowering the water table & salinity control to name a few but the one I am most thrilled about on a day-to-day basis is the habitat that we have created and the increase in our biodiversity, including birdlife. We now have an incredible list of birds that frequent our area, and that I am most proud of.

Then and now spreading.

We have been using poultry manure as our base fertiliser for many, many years. The way we spread hasn’t really changed much over the years... just the machinery. Back then the Leyland was used as both the loader tractor and the tractor that pulled the spreader… without a cab.

The rig has got a little bigger.

Then and now baling hay.

Still using a road train to bale, just a bit bigger one now.

Then and now mowing lucerne.

April 1992: mowing our first stand of lucerne (alfalfa). The Leyland was our first tractor and we still use it today some 25 years later… just not for mowing. We give it easier jobs these days.
