The everyday of our family farm
How long to harvest?
All going well we should get our first cut of hay from this lucerne late November. Lucerne is a perennial plant so it will be cut for hay many times over the life of this stand. It is usually in for 5 years and we hope to get 6-7 cuts per year though only 4 cuts in the first year.
We used to buy lots of lucerne when we had horses! Have a good day Diane
Lucerne is alfalfa? I must study. I think Father grew lucerne once as a nitrogen adding crop for the soil.
Always busy. In my part of the world we are getting ready for harvest and then the long cold winter.
