Core sampling hay

  1. That reminded me (I'm not quite sure why) that when I was a youngster heat and spontaneous combustion were big worries in hay stored in barns.

    1. Still is a worry for some, but if baled correctly i.e. at the right moisture with no green material, then it isn't a concern.

    Never stack your hay in the shed if it was 'green', I seem to remember.

    1. 'Green' colour we like, 'green' because of uncured material we definitely don't like. We don't bale the hay unless the material is thoroughly cured.
